Return to Play Practices during COVID-19

On Tuesday June 15, 2021, the Ottawa Ospreys RFC will resume outdoor training in compliance with Rugby Ontario’s Return to Play (RTP) Plan and the Provincial Ontario Reopening Plan. The provincial step 1 has released local rugby clubs into phase 2 of the RTP, which means we can resume practices in groups of 10 for 60 minutes (max) of play, with a shared ball only. 

We are strongly encouraging members to register ASAP for those who will be returning to rugby in the provincial stage 1. The received registration data will allow our club to allocate athletes into groups of 10 with 1 or 2 assigned coaches. These groups with assigned coaches will be fixed groups for provincial stage 1 / RTP phase 2. When the province moves into stage 2 of reopening Ontario, our club will reevaluate and implement a revised approach to outdoor training.

Practice Requirements & Equipment

During the Return to Play Stages, outdoor training is currently non-contact. It is important that you come prepared for each practice.

The following is a list of required equipment for practicing non-contact rugby with the Ottawa Ospreys RFC:

      • All athletes and coaches must register within Sportslomo. To register for the 2021 season, please visit https://ottawarugby.com/registration/ 
      • All athletes and coaches will be required to complete their Rugby Ontario attestation forms within Sportslomo before 4:30 PM on practice nights. If you do not complete the Rugby Ontario Attestation forms before 4:30 PM, you will not be eligible to practice.
      • All athletes must arrive dressed for practice (shorts, shirt, cleats) and bring their water bottle, sunscreen, hat, and a snack for after practice. 
      • All attendees MUST remain at a distance of 3 meters. 
      • Shared Rugby Ball activity is only permitted when the 3-meter distance between athletes is maintained.
      • Only one parent or guardian, per athlete, is permitted at the training grounds.
